Why Go Bald with Growing Bald?

I’m Sheldon — and I’m bald as hell.

Myself and my dog, Moose

I’m assuming you’re here because you are also bald as hell.

Or maybe you recently discovered a receding hairline? Or you caught a glimpse of a thin spot?

Regardless of how many hair follicles you have left, welcome aboard!

Let me tell you what I’m going to do to help.

A little about me

By day, I work as a 911 dispatcher.

Coaching people through the worst days of their lives. Calmly controlling chaotic calls to ensure that I can get the relevant information I need to send the appropriate emergency resources as quickly as possible.

Once help arrives, I disconnect and move on to the next emergency. But for a while there, it’s just the caller and I. It’s on me to reign them in — to control the scene with my words and instructions.

In some ways, going bald can feel a bit like our own personal “emergency”. I’ll never forget how I felt the first time I realized without a doubt that I was losing my hair at the age of 18.

I also won’t forget how badly I wanted someone to tell me things were going to be okay.

It was 2010 and the internet was a different place back then. My Google searches brought me to countless spammy Livestrong articles and barely English affiliate-marketing websites, pushing things like Rogaine or weird shampoos. Sites that made me feel like I had something wrong with me that required immediate treatment.

Many years have passed. As you might have guessed, the shampoos didn’t work. The multivitamins didn’t work. The creams and treatments didn’t work.

My genes won, like they always do in the end…and I’ve been bald for 13 years.

What can Growing Bald do for you?

I created Growing Bald to be a beacon of light in a dark sea. To reach out to men across the globe who are experiencing their own hair loss emergency, and to tell them what I needed to hear back in 2010 when I was in their shoes:

You are going to be okay.

You don’t need to read spammy articles. You don’t need to buy pills or creams. You don’t need to undergo painful and expensive surgery. Your hair is going to fall out regardless, so we might as well begin our journey to acceptance.

Growing Bald is a place where bald or balding men can come and find realistic information about male pattern baldness that isn’t meant to funnel you into buying useless products.

I’m here to help. To support you. I’m here to walk with you on your path to acceptance and self-confidence. Reach out to me anytime, day or night. I’m here to help.

Let’s Grow Bald together

With love,

Sheldon
